Everyone needs one kitchen sink, but what about two? As with all decisions you make during a remodel, there are pros and cons to adding a second kitchen sink. The final decision will depend on several factors.

Adding another sink is one of the biggest trends in modern kitchen design because of the function and convenience it gives your space. Benefits include saving time while cooking, giving your “sous chef” a place to help cook and clean dishes, enhancing the room’s beauty and style, and the return on investment when you decide to sell the home.

How busy is your household? Do you love to cook and entertain? Imagine being able to prep and cook a large dinner without dishes piling up in your way. However, it may not be worth the cost for someone who rarely cooks.

The next consideration is the size and layout of your kitchen. In a small space, the second kitchen sink would be more of a hindrance than a help, taking away valuable counter space. That being said, if you’re preparing for a kitchen renovation with Dimension Design-Build-Remodel, our design plans will certainly include improving your layout to make any desired amenities possible and optimally positioned. If there’s simply no room for another sink, other solutions can be discussed, such as adding a pot filler over the stove.

One more complication could be the difficulty and cost of the plumbing. Second sinks are often installed in islands, but they can also be added adjacent to the first sink or in a separate food prep area. Even in a large kitchen, the best place in your layout to add a second sink might cause installation issues and increase your budget. For our house in Brookfield, we hired Dave with Dimension Design-Build-Remodel to renovate the master bathroom.

Dave was a great contractor to work with in all facets (planning, pricing, demolition, remodeling, and finishing work). He has a design background so he was thoughtful in making suggestions to the architect's/professional designer's plans. He communicated often and was always available to answer questions (even on a Saturday morning).

This project came in on time and within budget. Dave was the first contractor I have worked with that did not “change order” me to death. While we had changes to the project, and pursuant to the contract he could have issued/charged for a change order, Dave did not charge me because the changes did not increase the cost of the project.

The safe installation was a pleasant experience and there was a lot of respect for the pets that also reside in my home. 12. Black Friday is the busiest day of the year for plumbers, with Roto-Rooter reporting that kitchen drains, garbage disposals, and toilets require more attention the day after Thanksgiving than any other day.
