Have you given much thought to how healthy your home is? The air quality in your home may aggravate asthma and contribute to allergies. In addition to respiratory conditions, the heart and cardiovascular system can be affected. Adding a HEPA filter to your HVAC system has several benefits, the most important of which is improving your indoor air quality.

What is a HEPA filter?

The acronym stands for “High-Efficiency Particulate Air.” There are several standards that a mechanical filter must meet to be considered true HEPA, including a minimum efficiency of 99.97% for trapping the smallest particles.

HEPA filters, made of hundreds of thousands of fiberglass fibers in a tight weave, work by forcing air through a fine mesh. They can capture bacteria, allergens, pollen, mold spores, pet dander, germs, viruses, and more.

What’s wrong with a standard HVAC air filter?

The standard air filter does collect dust, lint, smoke, and other unwanted particles—just not as much as a HEPA filter. HEPA is tested against the most penetrating particle size, and it captures high levels of particles that are 0.3-microns or smaller.

Once Dimension Inc. installs a whole-house HEPA filter system in your home, you will notice the difference! The benefits of adding a HEPA filter to your HVAC system may include:

    • Treating allergies naturally
    • Neutralizing bad smells without chemicals
    • Preventing respiratory infections in infants, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system
    • Improving sleep quality
    • Reducing secondhand smoke

How does adding a HEPA filter to an HVAC system work?

Dimension Inc. installs the PREMIERONE PureFlo HP500 System on the return-side air duct of a home’s HVAC system. This works best for homeowners because it is designed to work with any existing heating and cooling system. With no pressure drop, the unit will not impede the HVAC system in any way.

How often do you have to replace a HEPA filter?

The PureFlo will perform at peak efficiency for up to two years. Then the HEPA filter within the unit will need to be replaced. The unit’s pre-filter and carbon filter should be replaced as needed, usually every 3 to 6 months.
